On Hold with Atchka! and Michael Karolchyk

June 11, 2012
by

Warning: Michael Karolchyk, the Anti-Gym douche, and his particular brand of fat hatred is like MeMe Roth on steroids.

I first saw Michael Karolchyk make an ass of himself on Neil Cavuto’s show three years ago. He’s the guy who likes to wear the “No Chubbies” t-shirts on national television and talk about how disgusting fat people were.

Fresh off my interview with MeMe, I decided to take on Karolchyk as well. Why?

Well, at the time I was heavy into battling fat-hating trolls and doing my best to humiliate and/or shame them. I even convinced Huffington Post to add me as a community moderator to prevent fat haters from crapping all over fat people in their comments (they have since rescinded my moderator status, claiming they have a “new” system in place).

So, taking on Karolchyk seemed to be a worthwhile battle.

It wasn’t.

Here’s why.

If you thought MeMe Roth has serious psychological issues, you’ll think Michael Karolchyk needs to be institutionalized. He’s a pathological liar, which I documented both at the end of this interview, and in a series of posts (1, 2, 3). I even called his mother and ex-wife to get as much information as I could.

Basically, I wanted to discredit Karolchyk so thoroughly that he would never be taken seriously again.

So, armed with my arsenal of amateur journalism tricks, I dug up a shitload of dirt on the man and tied it all together into a neat, humiliating package that would be there for anyone who wanted to know what he was all about.

I then promoted our debate like a wrestling match, giddy at the fact that I had taken down Karolchyk a few notches.

I have no idea if it worked. I don’t even know if he’s been on television since then. But I was thrilled that I could inflict a little pain and public humiliation on this walking hemorrhoid.

Since then, I’ve felt as though all the effort wasn’t really worth it. Karolchyk is just one of millions like him and challenging him to a debate was essentially saying that his viewpoint deserved the time and energy to refute.

It didn’t, and it doesn’t.

At one point, Karolchyk challenged me to find a fatty who could run a marathon in X minutes, along with some other arbitrary feats of strength, a challenge which I accepted.

In hindsight, though, it was ridiculous to lend even a shred of credibility to his belief that “health” means being able to compete in a marathon at all. Health is much less complicated than getting yourself all buff and badass. Metabolic health is about caring for your body and its unique genetic structure by feeding it well, moving it as well as you can, and loving it unconditionally.

In the years since this interview, I’ve begun to question the utility of reverse trolling and rushing headlong into battle with ignorant assholes.

Debate the issues? Yes!

Legitimize ignorance by providing a counterpoint to their “point”? Nope. Not worth it. Not even if you can drag their ignorant ass through the mud to show the world just how stupid they are.

The exception to this is when the troll in question is representing a skewed form of “conventional wisdom” that is so prevalent in our society today. Then, you may find yourself toe-to-toe with a MeMe-like troll. But, as you shall soon hear, Karolchyk is an entirely different animal and he does not deserve any more attention than is necessary to roll your eyes at him.

Yep, there are some people that it just isn’t worth wasting your breath debating them. They’re bigots and proud of that fact, nothing will change their minds – not all the facts backed by all the science in the world. They “know” what they “know” and that’s all there is to it in their wee, small minds. I laugh at them, flip them off, and continue to do my thing (for some reason, that seems to really piss them off – makes my day, I can tell you).

Michael Karoylchyk is a real piece of work. What I found interesting is how you compared fat acceptance struggles with civil rights struggles. So many people want to ignore, that fat discrimination is the same as racial discrimination. It is discriminating against someone purely based on how they look. It is clothing stores where they’re not actually putting signs up saying “No fat people allowed” they are communicating that fat people are not preffered in their stores. It is people feeling they have a right to concern troll fat people, and regard them as stupid. This sounds exactly like the same tired old looks based discrimination of the past. People believe that it’s okay, because fat people should change themselves.

I actually made the mistake of arguing this with a person of color via the internet. They claimed people aren’t dragging fat people out of their houses and lynching them therefore it’s not the same. They aren’t doing that to fat people, they are instead creating a cultural environment where fat people cannot work unless they damage their bodies in an attempt to become thinner. This interview with a former contestant of The Biggest Loser explained how being on the show was horrifyingly dehumanizing: http://www.bodylovewellness.com/2010/06/09/kai-hibbard-biggest-loser-finalist-part-1-of-3/.

No we’re not being killed in public, instead we are so pressured to be thin, we are killing ourselves metaphorically and unfortunately sometimes literally. We are told we should be happy someone is offering us the opportunity to pay to be medically experimented on via Bariatric surgery. We’re told we should be happy there’s at least one store that carries our size of clothing.

It’s the same damn thing, and frankly I’m disgusted that people of color victim blame, and tell us it’s not the same. They are hiding from the truth, and knowing how horrible said discrimination affected them, they should be joining us against fat discrimination, instead of denying it’s not happening again.

      Michael Karolchyk is a meathead.

I don’t think Fat Acceptance and the Civil Rights movement are directly comparable, really. I think they are comparable only in the way that any fight for respect and freedom from oppression is, be it civil rights, gay rights, or women’s rights. The way the oppressed group is treated will necessarily be different, and the damage done to the oppressed group will also be unique. For racial oppression, the result has been an ongoing history of violence, discrimination, disenfranchisement and segregation. For weight-based oppression, the result is eating disorders and unhealthy self-image. And weight-based oppression is a relatively recent development in terms of the scope and scale of the attention.

So, the circumstances and the impact are definitely different. But I think it’s difficult to argue that the effects of weight-based discrimination are anywhere near as bad as racism or sexism or homophobia. But it hasn’t been around for more than 100 years at best, and they’ve only socially and politically begun turning the screws in the past few decades. Plus obesity rates were slightly less than they are today.

But I don’t think we need to even compare oppressions at all. We don’t need to figure out which is worse. They’re all bad and we need to remain vigilant against all forms of oppression.

      Peace,
      Shannon

Fat discrimination is the same as racial discrimination? LOL LOL LOL

When was the last time a fat person was lynched for being fat?

Being fat is a choice. Being a member of a race or ethnic group isn’t. Comparing the struggles is disgusting.

Call me for a good time when you find the body of research that suggests that being fat is a choice for most people.

The body of research is history. Obesity is a late 20th early 21st century disorder.

The other proof is the laws of physics.

The is only one way to get fat and that is by eating too many calories for one’s own good. That’s what fat people do, They choose to eat tons of unhealthy highly pleasurable food. Anyone who would suggest otherwise is either a fool or a liar or both.

How about you fierce fatties really strike a blow for fatties everywhere. Allow Mike and MeMe to lock 20 of you in a cell (in the interest of science) for a month and eat only what they give you. Is that not a small sacrifice to make on behalf of all the abused and suffering fatties of fat phobia?

Is it worth 6 months of your life to prove all the science wrong and exonerate all the poor downtrodden fat people?

Shannon, make a list of all MK’s fat hate statements and then explain why in your mind they are hateful.

Also Shannon what is it about fat that you love?

MK does not hate fat people and I think you know that. You may not like his style but like Ms Roth the man is saving lives. I am sure you will deny that and the science that supports it.

Why not invite Mike here and debate him or go on a radio of TV show and take him to task? I think he like MeMe would wreck you. Man up.

Your forum looks kinda slow lately. This is confusing because most people today are fat. Maybe they don’t know that they are victims of this cruel world. MeMe and Mike are SOOOOO powerful.

Confront them Shannon instead of cheap shotting them if you have the balls.

MK”Fan”, could you list for me some people that Karolchyk has saved the lives of? Can you pinpoint exactly how it was Karolchyk’s influence that saved their lives? Can you compile for me some statistics that show that Karolchyk’s ideas about weight loss and health are both effective in the short and the long term?

If you listened to the MeMe video and think that she trashed Shannon, then I think you’re about as desperately in need of a critical thinking course as she is.

I don’t know Mike’s data, You’d have to ask him that. Look up his email and ask him. I am not Mike’s score keeper. I would guess that he has a very high success rate.

Mike uses a drill sergeant approach. He’s a motivator who uses humor and tough talk.

Your last paragraph make no sense at all. MeMe is always polite. She is attacked constantly and she responds with grace and style.

My own personal advice for people hell bent on eating themselves to death is to consider the effect it has on the people around you, especially your kids. Eat mindfully and in an accountable manner. Anything else would be extremely selfish.

Oooh lookie! We got ourselves another troll for Xmas (okay, a bit early). Gee, I thought it’s been kind of polite and civilized around here for quite a long while.
Here’s one we can all kick around till Shannon boots his ass out. I see Kala’s started already.
MKfan thinks Mike and Meme are saving lives, yet cannot actually cite any life either one has saved. He thinks fat people are hell bent on eating themselves to death (even if true, it beats starving oneself to death, which many fat-haters have done). He thinks obese people magically appeared late last century. He thinks we’re saying fat civil rights is the same issue as racial civil rights. He thinks Mike and Meme are polite. And just in case anybody should mistake him for a non-troll, he comes up with the usual misapplication of the laws of physics.
Can anybody here NOT laugh their heads off at this transparent presentation of lies and weak excuses for trying to feel superior to a whole diverse group of people? MKfan, there’s no excuse for such weak-mindedness. Push away from the tv and learn something useful instead.

      • June 14, 2012 11:32 pm

Oh, I bet Karolchyk spends his days roaming the streets searching for dangerous situations to rescue people from. His mission is all about saving lives. It has nothing to do with the profits he makes on his gym in exchange for being a public idiot. Wow, you throw donuts at people. You’re like the Lambert’s of fitness.

        What a clown.

    • June 14, 2012 10:52 pm

      Hi Michael,
Welcome to Fierce Fatties. It’s been a while, but I’m not surprised you turned up.

Nice email address. JB007@aol.com? Yeah, you would use that as a fake email address when you’re attempting to play super-spy.

Michael Karolchyk is to James Bond what Jimmy Swaggart is to Jesus.

By the way, I sent you an email to verify, in case this really is James Bond and I’m completely off-base regarding the narcissism that drives you to Google yourself daily and respond to any criticism with a pseudonym that implies you have fans.

As far as this forum goes, I think you mean the fact that nobody else has commented on your interview, right? Yeah, the same thing happened last time I posted it too. We got tons of comments on the MeMe Roth interview and because I followed it up with your shitbrains, people just don’t care. The people who visit this site have to put up with lunkheads like you on a shamefully regular basis. Why would they want to spend their free time listening to you spewing ignorance like a big, dumb volcano?

And speaking of assholes, you may want to acquaint yourself with our Clear and Present Asshole rule. I have little tolerance for shit-talkers who have nothing constructive to add. If you have data, then post it. Citing “history” and the “laws of physics” won’t cut it, my friend.

But to answer your two dimwitted rebuttals, have you heard of Horace Fletcher? William Banting? Thomas Aquinas?

      Aquinas

Queen Victoria was fat as well, and she lived to be 82 at a time when the average life expectancy was 40-45.

All history proves is that if you are wealthy enough to afford decent food, there will be some people who are obese. It just happens that it wasn’t until, essentially, World War II that there was such a thing as a middle class who could afford decent food. The increase in obesity rates between 1980 and 2000 (as they have been stable for the first decade of the century) can be attributed to multiple changes in the culture, which includes food and exercise. There are more two parent households with limited time and resources, there’s poverty and food deserts, and, of course, there’s weight cycling.

It’s complicated to say the least. But Michael Karolchyk (i.e., you) is a simplistic dipshit who only understands lifting heavy things and raw meat.

Regarding the laws of physics go: yes, I obey the law of gravity, the laws of motion (I’m a big fan of Newton), and the laws of time and space. I even obey the first law of thermodynamics, which what you’re grasping for like a brain-damaged monkey. Just because you don’t know how leptin, ghrelin and insulin work doesn’t mean you know what the fuck you’re talking about.

Finally, why not invite him to debate me? Um, hello, that’s what this was. I asked questions, Michael answered. Michael asked questions, I answered. Are you wanting a podium or something? I’m not really sure how doing this again would be any different.

But sure, okay, if you set up a television or radio event to debate me, I will be there with bells on. But I’m not the least bit interested in setting that up in my spare time because I’ve got bigger fish to fry. Also, I’ve been studying this issue for the past two years and the last time we debated, I was but a young pup. I would absolutely love the opportunity to humiliate you in front of a studio audience, but since no news organization takes you seriously any more, it’s not going to happen.

So by all means, pull those contacts, Michael. You’re a celebrity, right?

Anyway, it’s been fun hearing from you again and I hope that you’re eventually able to make sweet love to a woman without crying for your mommy.

And good luck with the whole asshole thing.

      Peace,
      Shannon

Shannon, Thank you for this. It is nice to see a bully be put in his place. It is nice that you helped me realize that he is not only a bully but also a coward and then I got to see he is just a sad pitiful man.

        • June 14, 2012 11:28 pm

Ivan, that’s the only reason people are bullies. People who have a satisfying life don’t try to make others feel like shit for how they choose to live their life. Even if all the fatties in the world are gluttonous sloths, it still doesn’t give Karolchyk the right to be a doucheturd. He can go be an asshole on his own time.

          Peace,
          Shannon

I doubt he has the balls to debate Karolchyk.

Shannon like all fatties is a glutton. Shannon eats 3 times more than he should and he knows it. Like the rest of you he is not denial about that.

Here’s the challenge. Contact Mike or MeMe or Jamie Oliver and agree to be locked in a cell and fed as per their caloric recommendations. When none of you fatties lose weight you will have won proven all the science wrong.

You could probably get a TV show to sponsor it Shannon. Round up some fatties and corral them in a fatty camp. Not the Golden Corral. LOL This would strike a huge blow for fat acceptance. Prove it Shannon.

Let’s end this debate once and for all. Here is your opportunity to prove that the majority of fat people don’t over eat. Is this small sacrifice of a few months worth to save all the poor suffering fatties? Come on Shannon do the experiment. You and your fatties will get 5 Lean Cuisines a day.

I think you and your fatties are all mouth. Prove me wrong.

      Oh Michael.

I really don’t know how to respond. You’ve actually gone and changed names and email addresses to try and trick us into listening to you without actually accepting that those previous comments were from you as well.

On the Pitiful Bastard Scale of 1-10, you’ve just sunk to a -3. It’s so pathetic, it’s almost adorable.

Below are two of your comments, Michael, as viewed from the Dashboard of this blog. The numbers boxed off in green is called an “IP Address” and it is sort of like a thumbprint on the internet.

      Karolchyk's Deception

Your IP Address, 97.81.221.127, is identical for both MKFAN and SkyPilot, which means that both comments were made from the same computer.

Now, I’m not deleting this comment because I want everyone to witness just how pathetic you are. You’re so pathetic that you can’t even comment in your own name, and when you get called out for it, you switch to another name, as though the legions of Michael Karolchyk fans are coming to your aid.

In any case, yes, you can lock someone in a jail cell and starve them to thinness, but it won’t be sustainable and it won’t be healthy in the least thanks to a series of systems that are far too complicated for your steroid-addled brain to comprehend. But if you want to give it a try, I recommend this lecture given by Dr. Jeffrey Friedman, who discovered leptin. I just watched it today and it’s spot on. Plus, there are plenty of pictures to distract you between the big words.

Now, do us all a favor and go drag your knuckles elsewhere. This is the last of your comments that I’ll allow. After this, it’s the Ban Hammer, my friend.

      Peace,
      Shannon

“Michael, I named myself SpaceRanger and told him he didn’t have the balls to debate you.”

Actually, his mom is super nice, so I doubt it’s her. She’s like your stereotypical New Jersey mom. I feel terrible that her son has turned into this hateful little shit. And I don’t think you can necessarily blame her for how he turned out. Sometimes people are just born to be assholes. And in this assholigenic environment, it’s nearly impossible not to become an asshole.

If anything, Michael’s the basement and his mom’s yelling down the steps, “Did you look for a job today, Michael?”

Actually, this is how I picture it like that host segment where Joel plays Warrior of the Lost World in a minivan. That is, perhaps, one of my favorite host segments. “Shutup. Just shutup. All of you shutup!”

Unfortunately, they’re incapable of learning, so they can become boring very quickly. Feed yours a factoid now and then. It’s amusing to watch its attempts to think with no worries that it will ever succeed.

Mogwai are cute too, but I wouldn’t let you take one home. Trolls are dumb, but venomous, and not worth the risk. It’s in the best interests of society as a whole to crush them underfoot when you find them. They are venomous vermin who rapidly breed. I heard somebody released a cage full of them in Florida and they’ve been migrating north.

Now, if you get yourself a python, I would definitely recommend trolls as an excellent food supply.
