And It Goes Like This…

August 2, 2013

Sometimes there is nothing more direct and immediate than a photograph. You see gut-wrenching exposès from war-torn nations, and the explosive panic of a war correspondent’s fast shutter clicks as they run for cover and try to tell the world a story.

Then there are the glossy, slick, Photoshopped images of what society is trying to sell you on the thick, expensive pages of a fashion magazine.

My favorite type of photograph, though, is the one that captures the joy and elation of the human spirit, that’s so often elusive and difficult to grab when you aren’t letting your subject be exactly who they are.

So, if on the off chance you don’t get a moment to see Gabriela Hasbun’s “Fat. Fit. Flabulous!” photo series and the images of the the almost-gleeful faces of the participants, you can visit them here so that you may stop once or twice during your long, stressful day and gaze upon happy, fat people, who are gorgeous and colorful and a delight to behold.
