When Bigotry Unites

Do you ever wonder what a double standard looks like? WELL LOOK NO FURTHER, MY FRIENDS, Olivia Barker from USA Today has got us covered!

I’m sure everyone here knows about internet trolls and how they just looooOOoove to comment negatively on someone’s selfies or pictures. I mean, some of the worst stuff comes out when someone, and especially a woman, takes a good lookin’ photo. Heavens forbid she has some sort of flaw or, worse, she’s “too pretty.” So imagine the backlash aimed at Sport Illustrated swimsuit issue cover girl Chrissy Teigen when she dared to post a PG-13-ish picture to her Instagram. I mean, just look.

Oh, the horror!

Some trolls said she must be gaining weight because she’s pregnant. Uhm?

So like any pissed off woman, she snapped back at her detractors:

Honestly (expletive) you all. Why do I even open anything up to you.

And

In what other real life situation would you walk up to someone and tell them they’re fat or gained weight? Seriously you are (acronym not fit for family website).

And

I don’t know why I am always surprised when you let me down. I gotta get used to this (expletive).

And

It’s amazing to me that I am told to get over the (expletive) but the (expletive) are never told to stop being pieces of (expletive).

If you were wondering, I did not censor Mrs. Teigen’s* colorful words. No, that was the doing of Olivia Barker, staff writer for USA Today. In fact, this whole scene wouldn’t have been newsworthy if Ms. Barker had not deliberately and maliciously questioned Teigen’s professionalism, calling Teigen’s response a “Twitter tirade.” What Barker did was try and put Teigen “in her place,” so to speak, for making the vicious comments.

But why shouldn’t Teigen call out her haters? Why in the world should anyone give assholes any kind of wall to hide behind? Calling out trolls and haters is considered “unprofessional”? No, that is a critically vital part of dismantling bigots.

On the same note, let’s talk about redirecting hatred. If you click on the picture above, you can read brookekinder’s comment. If not, then here:

you are flawless, hilarious and these trolls who sit around and follow you just to make absurd comments probably weigh 600lbs and have never accomplished anything in their miserable lives.#SIcovergirl #nootherhashtagneeded

Wow, way to stick it to the haters, brookekinder! Teigan isn’t fat because those trolls are fat and also have no life! Or a miserable life. Whatever, I don’t care.

At any rate, Olivia Barker needs to find other things that are newsworthy, like, I dunno, maybe those 234 missing children who were abducted from school by terrorists, and quit worrying about how a professional model takes care of her garbage. And brookekinder should “probably” drop the weight hate and just degrade trolls like normal, with awesome sarcasm and disregard.

*I don’t give a shit if Chrissy Teigan is married to John Legend, she is not his possession and I absolutely hate it when women are referred to as “Mrs. John Legend,” like seriously, she is a person as well.
